Bruce Almighty?

posted by Josh Goodman

There are a lot of ways to describe Colorado state Rep. Doug Bruce, and many of them happen to start with the letter "c": controversial, compelling, caustic, combustible and conservative.

How conservative? He once wrote a letter to Governing in which he called the Chamber of Commerce the "Chamber of Communists."

How combustible? On the day he was sworn in as a state representative, he kicked a cameraman.  The House censured him on a 62-1 vote. You could say that he got off on the wrong foot.

Bruce made his name as activist -- he's the author and chief cheerleader for Colorado's Taxpayer's Bill of Rights. He served as a county commissioner in El Paso County for a few years, before being appointed to a vacant legislative seat in December.

His tenure in Denver is going to be short-lived, however. He lost his Republican primary 52%-48% last night. It looks like Bruce will be searching for a new career.
